BLUE
ROCK FALLS SHOW |
| People who
were at the Blue Rocks show were: Jim Biehl, Red & Betty Coffin with
their grandaughter Courtney Arndt, Larry Housman, with his #74
Braxton Gremlin, and family and grandaughter Gracie Hasmey & Mike
Shaub.
The highlight of the day was the running of the Match Box cars. It went down to the finals between Gracie Hasmey, who came through the losers bracket & Courtney Arndt who went undefeated. After two dead heats, Gracie Hasmey finally beat Courtney Arndt by a bumper to win. In the Senior division, Jim Biehl beat Mike Shaub for the win. During the Junior Division, one competitior was so distraught that he lost, he threw his Match Box car about 20 ft. in disgust. The staff treated everyone to a hamburger & soda. Plans are being worked out for next year's event so as not to interfere with the Bowers show. I Click here to see photos of the winners of the Match Box races.

GARY WOLFORD FISH FRY By Ken Johnson The Gary Wolford Fish Fry was the most successful of all with beautiful weather and a top notch field of drivers. With the largest crowd ever in attendance, the fish was gone by noon. Around 1 o'clock fans lined up for a ride with their favorite driver and then at 2 o'clock the drivers lined up with their cars. Driving the white #19 was Kenny Brightbill and his co-pilots were Fred Rahmer and Don Ott. Driving the ATCO 54 was Bobby Gerhart Jr with Donny Wolf as his co-pilot. Greg Hodnett and his girlfriend lined up in the Yellow 22 and Brian Montieth and myself in the Black #21. The first lap had Greg Hodnett spin in turn 1 and Montieth T-Boned him. After getting out of that mess we continued through turn 2 and down the back stretch and there sat Kenny Birghtbill on the fence after taking down about 30 feet of it. We then made it around to the 4th turn and Montieth really got on it and drifted out toward the fence. I yelled turn left and he abruptly turned right, right into the front stretch fence. Red Flag was out for us and Brightbill. After the restart we made it through turn 1 and 2 and there again sitting in the same spot was Brightbill. This time I think they needed a front end loader to get him out. On the last restart, Paxton said anything goes and Montieth and Hodnett went at it. I saw Hodnett had no blindfold on and told Montieth to take his off and that's when I got the ride of my life. It was so dusty we couldn't see so Montieth was following the dust. He was really motoring and I can remember it like it was yesterday that he was sideways in the turns. Bobby Gerhart Jr took it nice and easy and won going away. I didn't even see him on the track after the crash. I thought we won because Hodnett was a lap behind us however it didn't matter because when we pulled in on the front stretch we were told we were disqualified. Brightbill was given another car but I never say him again either. Through the whole race we had no reverse and the transmission was slipping. Montieth would floor the gas and all of a sudden it would take off like a rocket. Wolford then told me after it was over that he paid Montieth to give me the ride of my life. It was!
